Chapter 20: To be with you

Hello ๐Ÿ™‚ I know it has been a long time since I last updated but I have a load of exams coming up and simming time is very difficult to come by. I’m hoping that this will be the last installment for the Autumn legacy because it would be neat, finishing at exactly 20 chapters. However,ย since I write the story as I progress in the game, I don’t know for sure.

“So…” Flynn said sitting down at the table where his kids were doing their homework. Nobody paid him any attention as he quietly started eating a piece of leftover cake, halfway through finishing it he paused, “The heirpoll results are in.”

The moment he said that all three of the kids looked up at him with newfound interest.
“Who is it dad? Is it me?” Nathaniel immediately asked puffing his chest proudly.
“No Nathaniel it’s not you.” Flynn replied bluntly and then he faced his youngest child, “Faye, you are the next heiress of the Autumn legacy.”
“That’s fine by me. No responsibility!” Gary smiled, “Congrats little sis.” he added.
Nathaniel remained silent.

Faye remained stunned for some time until she smiled, “I’ll try to be as good an heiress as I can.” she promised Flynn.
“I’ve no doubt that you will succeed my dear.” her father replied as he got up and left the table and then everyone continued doing their homework as if nothing had changed…

But it had…

“Staying up late to impress father aren’t we?” Nathaniel taunted Faye that very night.
“I don’t need to impress anyone.” Faye answered giving him a confused look over her shoulder. She blanched when she met his eyes. They were narrowed and he was looking at her with that same stare that he used on her brother.
“Nathan?” she asked him in a small voice, “Have I done something to upset you?” she asked him gently for she had gotten used to him directing that glare towards her brother but his expression had always been soft for her.
“Oh you’ve done many things to upset me.” he replied, “First of which is simply you existing.” he fixed her with another glare and then he left.

As the days turned into a whole week of tauntings and jokes that were meant to hurt and didn’t contain an ounce of funny in them, Faye decided to confront Nathaniel.

“Nathaniel!” she said angrily after her brother given her another scare by sneakingย up behind her, “What is your problem? I’ve done nothing to hurt you! And if I’ve done, I’m sorry because I did so unknowingly and I beg you to forgive me. I want the old Nathaniel back! The older brother I looked up to!”
“My problem?” he mused, “Well, I’m the eldest so I should be the heir by birth right, not you!” he spat.
“Our legacy has never followed the rules of first birth heirship!” Faye responded, “It’s the people who choose us, irrelevant of our birth order!”
“Well they haven’t made a good decision this time round!” he said, “I mean…they’ve chosen YOU!”
“And what’s wrong with that?”
“It’s not fair how you get to have the house, the money…all of this and I get to have nothing!” he said between gritted teeth.
“Oh…so this is what this is all about!? The money!” Faye said realisation dawning on her, “You’ve changed Nathaniel. It’s like all you care about are material things and since I don’t have a price tag on my forehead, apparently I’m not good enough to be of value to you!”

“That is right Faye.” he said smiling, “Even you have admitted it, you’re useless.” he smirked and then he slapped her.
Faye gasped in surprise as she reeled backwards from the blow.
“How dare you!?” she cried to which he simply smiled and left the room.

Faye couldn’t believe that her brother had hit her. Her right cheek still smarted from his slap and she winced as she gently washed her face. She had been unable to sleep even though she’d tried her best to remove that look of pure hatred her brother had given her right before he’d slapped her. So she had decided to get up and now here she was in the bathroom.

All alone.

Gosh, she had never felt so alone before. She had no one to confide to. Sure, she got alone well with Gary but they weren’t that close and her father, though he tried his hardest to stay focused, often strayed away from their conversation muttering to himself and eventually not even paying any attention to what she was telling him.

Quietly she tiptoed around the house. She wasn’t sure why but she felt that she needed to go somewhere.

Once outside the house she started running until she arrived at her destination, the Autumn Garden.

Even though she was a coward, she didn’t pass out when she saw a ghost because somehow she expected there to be one.
“Hello dear, aren’t you out a bit late after your curfew??” the ghost of an old woman said.
“Yes, I am aware of that but I needed someone to talk to.” Faye said sadly.
“What’s your name, little girl?” the old lady asked her.
“Faye Autumn.”
“Goodness! My legacy still survives!” the old lady laughed jovially, “My name is Emma Autumn and I’m your oldest ancestor.”
“Are you Emma the founder?” Faye asked surprised.
“Yes I am. I see you know your family history.” Emma said pleased, “Bet you never expected to meet me right?”
Faye could only nod her head in wonder.
“Now you said youย are hear becauseย you needed someone to talk to?” Emma invited her to share her troubles and Faye gladly accepted that invitation. She talked and talked till her voice grew hoarse and she cried till she had no more tears left to spare and throughout the whole conversation Emma listened and comforted her, horrified at the little girl’s tale of her brother beating her up.

When Nathaniel’s birthday came, no one was surprised at Gary’s unenthusiasmย to cheer but everyone was taken aback when Faye simply sat down and payed no heed to her brother’s birthday. They’d known Nathaniel and Gary had their differences but as far as they knew, they thought both boys got along well with their little sister.

Faye payed dearly for her lack of enthusiasm for her brother’s birthday. As soon as he found her alone in a room, Nathanielย started beatingย her up.
“That’ll teach you to respect me!” he said slapping her with each word he said.

It was just at this moment that Gary walked inย  the room.
“What the hell do you think you’re doing?” he growled at his brother.
“Don’t poke your large nose into other people’s business!” Nathaniel said through gritted teeth.
“I’m sorry but my little sister is not ‘other people’s business’!” Gary spat.
That got Nathaniel’s attention and the two of them started insulting each other.

Flynn walked in on them fighting.
“Stop it!” he said acting like a real parent for once in his life, “I’m sick of you two fighting all the time! Can’t you see how much your little sister hates it!?”
“Faye, Faye, FAYE!” Nathaniel cried, “It’s all about her now, isn’t it? Now that she’s the heir you no longer need to put up with Gary and me!”
“It’s not like that and you know it.” Flynn said his eyes flashing dangerously.
“I couldn’t help it dad, he was beating Faye up.” Gary said.
“What!? Gary, that is a serious accuse!” Flynn said.
“It is a true and sound one.” Gary replied.
“And you’re going to believe him!?” Nathaniel said, “He’s always making stuff up about me.”
“No. I’m going to ask someone else.” Flynn said turning around to face Faye who was watching the whole scene unfold in front of her eyes with horror.

Faye trembled when Flynn approached her, “Is it true Faye?” Flynn asked her.
Faye inhaled one sharp breath; “It’s true.” she told him in the firmest voice she could manage.
“Gary, Faye, I want to have a word with Nathaniel alone please.” Flynn said as he motioned for his kids to go.

“I want you to know how deeply disappointed in you I am, son.” Flynn said calmly to Nathaniel when the other two had left. “I thought that Robyn and I had instilled better values in you!”
“If I was made heir none of this would have happened.” Nathaniel replied coldly.ย
“I’m glad you weren’t chosen as the heir because you would have made a mess of it.” Flynn replied scathingly, “Nothing…nothing gives you the right to beat up your siblings and as I’m sure you’ve already worked out by yourself, you’re not welcome in this house anymore Nathaniel.” Flynn said. “I want you to clear out first thing next morning.”
“What!? Dad you can’t be serious!!?” Nathaniel was shocked.
To which Flynn replied, “Do you see me smiling? Cause I’m not. Myย wordย is final, I am kicking you out.”

The next morning Nathaniel left the Autumn household for good.

Without Nathaniel Faye was able to relax and enjoy life again though she wasn’t the old carefree girl that she used to be. Gary noticed that his little sister was more reserved than usualย and at school she made noย friends. He wasn’t one that liked company but he made some effort to engage her in conversation when they practiced chess.

One nightย Gary woke up in the middle of the night when he heard screaming. His sister was out cold on their bedroom floor.

It took a while but he finally managed to wake her up.
“I’m scared Gary.” she told him, “Everytime I go to sleep I dream of him hitting me. I just can’t forget the past.” she cried.
“Hey little sis, no one is expecting you to forget about the past. Just wake me up whenever you need some comfort, don’t scream and pass out on me like that…because you gave me a scare.”
That got Faye laughing, “What? I managed to scare you?” she told him incredulously.
“Shut up!” he said annoyed.

It was soon time for Gary’s birthday.

And he grew up looking fine.. ๐Ÿ™‚

It wasn’t long after his birthday that Gary realised he had a certain effect on women. However he was deeply surprised when the one he was attracted to most would not pay any heed to his advances in the romantic department. Marlana Eggleston was his best friend but Gary wanted her to be more than that. So he set out to impress her…

And he finally did manage to ๐Ÿ™‚

With Gary busy spending time with Marlana, Faye was left alone a lot of the time. She didn’t blame her brother, for she understood how he would want to spend more time with Marlana than with her. Yet though she understood her brother, that didn’t mean that she didn’t feel lonely. So, she ended up sneaking out past curfew most of the nights to speak with her ancestors. She was really delighted when she got to meet her grandfather.

Faye soon realised that she enjoyed the company of her ghostly ancestors more than she did of her classmates and the realisation didn’t bother her at all. The ghosts always listened to her for they had nowhere they had to be in a few minutes or an appointment in an hour. She felt relaxed and at peace when she talked to them. Almost as if she was at home.

Faye wanted to throw the perfect birthday party for her dad and it was turning out to be so…until the cake caught fire.

Luckily, one of the guests was able to extinguish it, Faye hurriedly placed an order for another cake and the party continued without a hitch.

After the party, it was back to old times…arguing with the mirror, speaking to himself. Faye got no thank you for the festives that she had organised but she knew her father and she knew that he had enjoyed it.

It was a wonderful Friday afternoon and Faye couldn’t be happier. Her teacher had just announced her research on the science facility as the top of the school and the weekend was here. She had decided to go over to Central Park after school for nobody would be at home till later that evening. She knew her dad had gone to give a helping hand over at City Hall and her brother was working on his afternoon shiftย at Hogan’s Deep Fried diner.

Gary was really tired, he had had a sleepless night the day before and he also felt really sick. He just couldn’t wait till his shift was over so that he could go back home and sleep.

In the state that he was in, he only realised that he had left the waffles in the oven for too long when it was too late. Fire erupted from the stove and Gary was blasted with heat.

Within moments theย whole kitchen wasย ablaze andย the flames were licking his very skin.

Then hope surged through him when he heard the sirens of the firefighters. He was going to be safe.

“Hello?”
“Hello Faye.”
“Dad?” Faye said surprised, her dad had only call her on her cell around three times in her whole life.
“Faye, it’s Gary…he’s dead.”
“What!?” Faye cried, “He can’t be!”
“There was a fire in the kitchen and the firefighters couldn’t get to him before too late…”
“Where are you dad?”
“I’m at the morgue. I just got the call.”
“I’m coming over.” Faye said determinately.
“No Faye. It’s best that you remember him how he looked alive.” Flynn replied.

Faye did as she was told, only her dad was crazy enough to call his daughter and tell her that her brother had died instead of telling her in person. She desperately needed someone to comfort her for Gary was the closest family member that she had. She waited up late till her dad got back home and she forced him to sit down and eat the sandwich she had prepared him hours ago just for the sake of having something to do.

If she expected consolation she was wrong. All she got was silence until she couldn’t bare it any longer and she left in her bedroom.

Wrong decision for she collapsed into tears when she saw the bed that he used to sleep in every night.
“Why!?” she cried out loud, “First mum and now my brother!!! Why is this happening to me!?”

The moment he heard her screaming, Flynn entered the room to try and console his daughter. Faye lashed out all her anger towards her father but he understood her need to express herself and he just tried to calm her down.

Finally she broke down into sobs that wrecked her whole body but Flynn was there this time round. He was there to comfort her and for once Faye didn’t feel like she was alone in the world.

Faye was not happy to learn that only heirs and their spouses got to rest in the Autumn Garden. Since her brother did not make the fit, he was buried inย theย Pleasant Rest Graveyard. She tried to sneak out to visit him at night but she got caught by the police before she even reached her destination.

Luckily though, her birthday wasn’t far away and as she blew the candles on her cake she felt free. There would no longer be a curfew for her now, she was free to spend her nights however she wanted. Faye really needed to see her brother again and she knew that if she visited the graveyard she could maybe see him there just like she had seen her ancestors in the Autumn Garden.

Isn’t she just awesome?? I just love her and all the expressions she throws ๐Ÿ™‚

Faye visited her brother everyday at the graveyard. She would go there late in the afternoon and then leave just before dusk. However, one day it was different. Faye was sitting on the bench next to her brother’s tombstone when she fell asleep. She woke up hours later after the sun had long slipped beneath the horizon.

She hurriedly started making her way out of the graveyard when she saw something that stopped her.
“Gary?” she said a bit afraid of what she was seeing even though she had long known of the existence of ghosts.
The blue ghost turned to look at her, “I’m sorry young lady but I’m not the Gary you’re seeking.”
“Oh…please forgive my mistake.” Faye said, “It’s just…you have the same haircut my brother used to wear when he was a teen. He shaved it off when he grew up…he died you know?…he caught on fire…I’m rambling, aren’t I?… I’m sorry, I don’t have anyone to talk to right now. Just forget I ever talked to you and may you live in peace.”
“Young woman, nothing’s wrong with rambling! How long has your brother been dead?”
“Four months.” Faye gulped.
“Ah, I see who you want. You’ll probably get to see him in a few. He loves to wander around.” the ghost said.
“Thanks.” Faye said, “My name’s Faye Autumn.” she added softly.
“I’m Ransom Clavell.” he said shaking her hand, “And I do believe that that is your brother that I see.” he said looking behind her.

“Gary! Oh my god I’ve missed you so much!” Faye said rushing over to greet her brother.
“Hey little sis.” Gary said giving her a wink.
Seeing him up so close and talking to her was too much for Faye and she burst into tears. “Gah, I’ve missed you more than you could ever begin to imagine.”
“I’ve missed you too Faye.” Gary said, “But now don’t you cry! I guess I wasn’t meant to live. You however, you have a legacy to continue.”
“I don’t think I’m doing a great job of being an heiress right now. In case you haven’t noticed, I’m not the socialising type.” Faye sniffled.
“Oh don’t you worry. You’ll find your man when the time is right little sis.”

Even thoughย Faye was a bit of a coward, she loved the excitement that she had felt when she had stayed at the cemetery the night before. So she decided to go pay her brother another visit.

Faye was disappointed that she didn’t get to see neither her brother nor Ransom that night but she did meet up with another very well behavedย ghost by the name of Joel Astroman. Faye had to admit that after speaking to Ransom and Joel, she did have quite a thing for ghost men. They were so polite and both were very good listeners.

Faye soonย established a routine, in the mornings she would paint, then she would sleep in the afternoon and finally she went to the graveyard where she spent the night. If Flynn noticed her odd behaviour, he did nothing to show her that he was disturbed by it. Ever since that day when Gary had died, the longest conversation Faye and her father had managed to achieve was a hello and goodbye. Yet Faye didn’t let that bother her for it was how her father behaved, sometimes he would suddenly realise that he was a parent whereas mostly he lived life day by day.

Unfortunately, weeks went by and she neither saw her brother and nor the other two ghosts that she had chatted with. One night she was approached by the ghost of a young woman, about her own age. She introduced herself as Jennie Clavell and Faye immediately took a liking to the ghost.

The two women opened their hearts to each other and as the first rays of the sun started colouring the world again, Faye felt that she had finally found a true friend. The problem was, she was a ghost. “And that is yet another reason why I will continue to visit this graveyard by night.” Faye thought to herself.

And then just like that, her friend disappeared and Faye was left all alone for yet another day…until the sun bid the world goodbye andย maybe she couldย see her friend again…or her brother…or…

She didn’t get to see her friend Jennie but she got to see her brother again after a very long time.

Then one night she got to see Ransom again and after a night of easy talk and joking, she just couldn’t stop thinking about him. “I am one hell of a weird girl.” Faye told herself, “I think I like the ghost of a man!”

And the more time she spent with him, the more she liked him. She finally couldn’t resist and she reached out with her hand to stroke his cheek. Immediately she felt his hand on hers but it wasn’t stopping her, instead he was caressing her hand.
“I love you Faye Autumn.” he told her, “I’ve never for once regretted my death as much as I do now. I wish I was alive so that I could love you like a real man would.”
“I love you to Ransom, but what is there to stop us? And do not regret that because of which we were able to meet. If you hadn’t died and been placed in this graveyard, we never would have met.”

“So, the science facility called today.” Flynn said.
Faye blinked, unused to her father starting a normal conversation.
“What did they say?” she said recollecting herself.
“They believe they’ve hit a new peak in science. They asked if maybe we could donate the remains of a loved one and they’d try to bring her or him alive again. Do you think that we should?”
It took a moment for Faye to process that which her father had thrust upon her, “We definitely should!” she said.
“And who is it going to be?” she saw him look away blinking back tears.
“No dad. Not mum. It wouldn’t be fair to bring her back after all these years. Remember she left us when I was four years old, she’d be devastated to find out that Gary’s dead, Nathaniel hit me before you banned him from home and that I am a total freak.”
“You’re not a freak Faye…but you’re right.”
“So…I guess we should take Gary’s remains then.”
“Yes we should.” Faye said,ย “I think I should ask him about it first though.” she then added.
“Ask him?” her father said raising his eyebrows.
“Dad…all those nights I’ve been sneaking out at night. I’ve been going to the graveyard to see him…and other ghosts.”

“Honey if you think that I don’t believe in ghosts, you’re wrong.” Flynn said, “I’ve heard enough tales and seen enough with my own eyes to believe that they do exist. You ask your brother about whether he’d like another shot at life.”
“I will.” Faye said astonished by what her father said.
“Oh, and if he says no, how about you ask one of the other ghosts then. Seems to me like you have some friends there, for you to be going to that graveyard every night.”

“No.”
“What? Are you serious?”
“Yes, I’ve kind of grown accustomed to being a ghost and I enjoy scaring the hell out of other ghosts.” Gary said laughing, “Truth be told, I think ghost life suits me more than when I was really and truly alive. Besides, its not like you’ve got no one else to ask!” he said, “What about your best friend Jennie or…your lover Ransom?” he was teasing her.
“I just can’t believe you! You’re still the same annoying brother that you used to be!”
“And you’re still the same overly curious little sister.” he said ruffling her hair.

It’s a ghost partay!! ๐Ÿ™‚ Haha, I just couldn’t help but include this picture. xD

Faye didn’t take long to decide whom she next wanted to ‘resurrect’ in the science lab. Her choice was obviously Ransom.

And she told him the news after she invited him to her house that night. She also told him that there were still a few risks and that maybe the procedure wouldn’t work but he was willing to try.
“I’ll do anything if it means that I’ll be there for you more.” Ransom had said.

After which the two of them made good use of the empty spare bedroom the Autumns have.

Later that same morning Faye recounted to her father what her brother had told her and then she told him about Ransom and how she loved him so she had asked him. Her father was really sad that Gary had rejected the offer but he brightened a bit at the prospect of his daughter having a potential husband.

Which was how later that morning they were standing in the graveyard, her father having just taken the urn of Ransom.
“Now honey…there’s always a chance that this might not work.” Flynn told his daughter.
“I know dad. I know.” she said.
“Well, I’ll go to the science lab right after work. I’ll call you if anything goes wrong.”
“Thanks dad.” Faye said giving her father a light squeeze on the shoulder.

“Well, it didn’t work as well as we’d hoped for I’m still a ghost but I don’t need to return to my tombstone!” Ransom said, “and your father said that it was okay if I lived here.”
“Dad that’s amazing thanks!” Faye said, “You know…I have a little news of my own Ransom. You’re going to be a father.”
“Wow! That is some news!” Ransom said delighted, “I wonder how the little tyke will turn out to be however? I hope he takes after his mother.”
“I hope he takes after you so that I can get to see what colour your eyes and hair were!” Faye said growing excited.
“Ha!” it was Flynn who had exclaimed, “But, my dear daughter…what if the baby is a ghost too?”
Somehow that got everyone laughing.

“You’ve changed your hair!” Faye exclaimed.
“Yup! They told me to tone it down for my new job.” Ransom replied casually.
“Job!?” Faye squealed.
“Yup, I am now official a Snitch! I’ve joined the Law Enforcement.” Ransom said proudly.
“Oh, I can imagine how useful they will find you on the field. Nobody can shoot you!” Faye teased him.
“Hey!”

“Yes! Yes! Yes!”

(And now they are officially my favourite couple in this legacy!)

It turned out that Flynn was right! Faye gave birth to baby boy Knox Autumn who is definitelyย ghosty ๐Ÿ™‚

A wedding beneath the starry sky ๐Ÿ™‚ It was at night that they met and at night at they married.

Real soon it was Knox’s first birthday and Faye threw a huge party inviting all of her remaining living relatives who decided that staying inside during the whole festive was better and so poor Knox still got to celebrate his birthday all by himself.

He looks cute in my opinion ๐Ÿ™‚

But of course, I couldn’t stand not knowing how the last sim to ever be born in my legacy looked like and I soon discovered that if I clicked on the mirror to change his appearance, he looked just normal ๐Ÿ™‚ So, here is Knox Autumn, the last sim to be born in the Autumn legacy!

I can’t believe I’ve done it!!! I’ve completed the legacy! Finally…it’s only been like my 3rd attempt xD

Just thought I’d include some pictures of my little legacy ghost boy ๐Ÿ™‚

And another mirror photo just to show you his genetics ๐Ÿ™‚

10 whole generations of madness and I still can’t believe that I’ve managed to complete this challenge! Thanks for all those who read this legacy and those who commented ๐Ÿ˜€

It is the end ๐Ÿ™‚
